Meadowlark Botanical Gardens Art Show Parameters 

This information outlines the guidelines and procedures for artwork shows by schools, organizations, or individual artist at the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens Visitor Center.   

Exhibit Schedule:

  • Shows typically run for 2-3 months, with specific months allocated for exhibitions.
  • Artists and exhibiting organizations/schools must commit to the full duration of the display. 
  • Art Show durations are February-April, May-June, July-August, and September-October.  There are no art shows from November through January.     

Security and Insurance:

  • Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is not liable for damage, destruction, or theft of artwork.
  • Artists/organizations/schools are responsible for insuring their artwork.

Selection Criteria:

  • Artworks are selected based on artistic merit, suitability for a family-oriented facility, and relevance to Meadowlark's garden and natural theme.
  • Prohibited content includes political or religious content and graphic depictions of sexuality or violence, nudity, and work that ridicules or disparages others. 

Application Process:

  • Complete applications, including sizes and photos of each artwork piece, must be submitted by October 1 for consideration. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 
  • Applications with artwork photos should be emailed to Meadowlark@nvrpa.org with the subject “Art Show Application” or delivered to Attn:  Art Show Application, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, 9750 Meadowlark Gardens Court, Vienna, Va 22182. 

Selection Notification:   

  • Applicants will be notified by email of selection by November 1.

Art Shows at Meadowlark Parameters:

  • Artwork must be framed or boxed canvas.
  • Priority is given to art groups and schools. Themes related to gardens and nature are encouraged.
  • More than one artist’s collection may be shown at the same time. 
  • Selected artists/organizations meet with the Program Manager before installation.
  • Insurance certificates must be provided two weeks before installation.
  • Meadowlark does not handle artwork sales; artists/organizations are responsible for sales and providing contact information. Artists or organizations must pay NOVA Parks 30% of any art sales occurring during the art show or as a result of the artwork’s display at Meadowlark. 
  • Artwork should be displayed for the duration of the exhibition, with sold pieces replaced.
  • Installation and removal must be coordinated with Meadowlark staff. 
  • Artists/organizations are responsible for installation and labeling of artwork.
  • Meadowlark will provide hanging equipment. 
  • Publicity of the display is permitted, and Meadowlark reserves the right to photograph artwork for promotional use.
  • Each artist or representative must sign the NOVA Parks Art Show Permit which includes an agreement to pay 30% of art sales that are a result of the art show at Meadowlark. 

These parameters aim to facilitate the exhibition of artwork for the enjoyment of garden patrons while ensuring a suitable environment for visitors and protecting the interests of artists and the venue.

This application is a part of the selection process for art shows to be held in the 2025 calendar year in the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens Visitor Center.
