THE RISE AND DEMISE OF THE W&OD RAILROAD
NOVA Parks Historian Paul McCray shares the history of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, the namesake for the W&OD Trail.
THE FIRST WHEELCHAIR RACE OF CHAMPIONS
1989 :: NOVA Parks hosted a 52-mile race that started in Purcellville, Virginia, followed the full length of the W&OD Trail and ended in Washington, DC.
FALLS CHURCH ROUTE 7 OVERPASS
1992 :: Construction began on the overpass over the four-lane Route 7 in Falls Church–the 16th overpass built on the W&OD Trail.
RESTON PARKWAY UNDERPASS
1999 :: NOVA Parks dedicated a new lighted underpass to allow W&OD Trail users safe passage below the Reston Parkway.
JIM CROW LAW SIGN UNVEILING
2022 :: An interpretive sign was unveiled in Leesburg about the segregationist laws that regulated the W&OD passenger train service during the 20th Century.
FIRST 45-MILE TRAIL CLEANUP OF W&OD TRAIL
April, 22 2024 :: W&OD Trail 50th anniversary festivities began on Rails to Trails Conservancy’s ‘Celebrate Trails Day’ on Saturday, April 27, with a community cleanup of the entire 45-mile trail.
CELEBRATE TRAILS DAY
